Does pump.fun lock liquidity?
pump.fun at a glance
- Launch model
- Bonding curve, then automatic and irreversible graduation into a PumpSwap pool. No human step.
- Destination DEX
- PumpSwap (pump.fun's own AMM, program pAMMBay6oceH9fJKBRHGP5D4bD4sWpmSwMn52FMfXEA). Raydium AMM v4 before March 2025.
- Liquidity after graduation
- LP tokens burned at migration. Official help center: liquidity cannot be removed manually; the only way SOL leaves the pool is through trading.
- BOOST (default since July 2026)
- Roughly 20% of the SOL that used to go into the burned pool is instead spent on a 5-minute buy-and-burn of the token right after migration. Less principal ends up in the pool than before.
- Before graduation
- No pool exists. Collected SOL is held by the bonding-curve program (6EF8rrecthR5Dkzon8Nwu78hRvfCKubJ14M5uBEwF6P).
- Fees
- Creation 0 SOL. Curve 1.25% (0.95% protocol, 0.30% creator). Graduation 0.015 SOL. PumpSwap pools from 1.25% down to 0.30% by market-cap tier.
- Mint address
- Vanity-ground to end in "pump". A suffix can be manufactured by anyone, so confirm the pool program, not the letters.
What "locked" means on pump.fun
pump.fun uses the word "locked" for a burn. At migration the program creates the PumpSwap pool, mints the LP tokens, and burns them in the same transaction. A burned LP token cannot be redeemed, so the SOL and tokens deposited in the pool can only leave through swaps. pump.fun's own docs put it plainly: the protocol does not seed or remove liquidity after graduation, and the pool is owned by the protocol.
This is a stronger guarantee than a time lock (nothing to unlock later) and the same practical outcome as a permanent lock. The difference versus a locked position is that a burned LP earns fees for nobody; the LP share of PumpSwap fees stays in the pool.
What changed with BOOST
From 21 July 2026 every new coin graduates in BOOST mode by default. Part of the settlement SOL that previously went into the burned pool (reported at around 20%) is used instead to buy the token over a five-minute TWAP and burn what was bought. Supporters argue it tightens supply; the honest reading for a liquidity check is that a BOOST graduation leaves less SOL in the pool than a pre-July graduation of the same size.
What the lock does not cover
- Creator selling. A creator who holds a large share of supply can dump it into the pool. pump.fun's help center names this, not liquidity removal, as the main dev risk.
- Price. A burned LP keeps the pool alive; it does not keep the price up.
- Pre-graduation coins. Most pump.fun coins never graduate. Until they do there is no DEX pool and nothing to lock; the risk model is purely about who holds the tokens.
How to verify it yourself
Don't take this page's word for it, or the launchpad's. Everything below is readable on-chain in a couple of minutes.
- 1Open the mint on Solscan. Mint Authority and Freeze Authority should both read none. (Not stated in pump.fun's official docs, so check it rather than assume it.)
- 2In the Markets tab, find the PumpSwap pool. The pool account should be owned by program pAMMBay6oceH9fJKBRHGP5D4bD4sWpmSwMn52FMfXEA.
- 3Open the pool's LP mint. Supply should be zero or near zero with no holders: that is the burn.
- 4Find the migration transaction (a Migrate event from 39azUYFWPz3VHgKCf3VChUwbpURdCHRxjWVowf5jUJjg). It should contain a Burn instruction on that LP mint.
- 5For a coin graduated after 21 July 2026, expect a buy-and-burn of the token within about five minutes of migration.
FAQ
Can the pump.fun dev pull liquidity after graduation?
No. The LP tokens are burned at migration, so there is no token to redeem for the underlying SOL. The dev can still sell whatever token supply they hold, which moves the price but does not remove the pool.
Is liquidity locked before a pump.fun coin graduates?
There is no liquidity pool before graduation. Buyers' SOL sits in the bonding-curve program and is paid out to sellers along the curve. Nothing can be "pulled" because no LP exists yet.
Does the "pump" suffix prove a token came from pump.fun?
Not on its own. The suffix is a vanity keypair that pump.fun grinds for its launches, but anyone can grind the same suffix. Check that the bonding curve or pool account is owned by the pump.fun or PumpSwap program.
Who earns the trading fees on a graduated pump.fun pool?
PumpSwap canonical pools charge between 1.25% and 0.30% depending on market cap, split between protocol, creator and the pool itself. The LP share accrues to the pool since the LP tokens are burned. Creators of "holder rewards" coins route their share to holders instead.
Checking a specific pump.fun token?
Paste its mint address into our free Rug Check. It reads mint, freeze and metadata authorities, liquidity depth and holder concentration straight from chain, for any Solana token regardless of where it launched.
Launching your own? SolFoundry seeds a Meteora DAMM v2 pool and permanently locks 100% of the position in the same flow, with mint and freeze authorities revoked and an anti-sniper fee schedule on the pool. Details on Liquidity Lock and what to look for in a launchpad.
